Mom Ballet Slippers

Friday, February 27, 2009 6 comments

Hi my name is Kim, a Mid Western girl, born and raised in south Detroit, who currently resides in Germany. After marrying my favorite German import in the states and breeding two lovely girls in Europe, I was fortunate enough to meet Laura, my fellow blogger, and created http://www.baroquebabies.com/. Living in Europe has opened my eyes to many wonderful finds like my ‘Mom’ slippers and has allowed me to travel with my family to exotic locales. I’m excited to share with all of you, my latest find, from Pia Rennt, a German based shoe designer, the most wonderfully bejeweled slippers….ever, the Pia Rennt ‘Dream Shoe’. So fabulous, in fact, she reminds you on her website the slippers are ‘specifically for indoor use only’. Having looked for three months to find the perfect slippers for my weary old soles (long story), I finally saw them, staring at me from the window of my favorite shoe store. There, shaped like a giant ballet slipper, were the slippers of my dreams (inhale…exhale, slowly). Pia Rennt's designs are definitely for girly-girls who enjoy indulging in whimsical, I still think I can dance the Nutcracker, kind of dream. Soft, plush and blissfully bejeweled are what makes these slippers special. I hate to admit it, but I feel really good when I slip them on. My husband still shakes his head every time I jete to the closet with folded clothes. To read more about the how’s and why’s of searching for my slippers check out our recently published post, Ballet Slipper, at http://www.baroquebabies.com/search?q=slippers.

Don't get the big Kiss-off on Valentines day this year.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 2 comments

Whether you are spending hundreds of dollars on a special Valentine’s Day dinner or spending the evening at home, everyone knows that sizzle can fizzle if you don’t make sure you’re breath is fresh and kissable!
It has been reported that between 14 and 25 percent of Americans and 35 to 45 percent of the entire world's population have chronic bad breath and Dr. Dan Smith, a dentist based in the Los Angeles area sees an influx of patients looking for advice on how to keep their breath minty fresh before a big Valentine’s Day date. Aside from carrying your own personal toothbrush and toothpaste, there are some simple ways to avoid and cure bad breath discreetly while on a date which means one less Valentine’s Day issue to worry about. Dr. Smith has some simple tips that can help both men and women assure they won’t be told to kiss-off!!
That could really ruin your evening.
Dr. Smith’s from Focus DentistryDate Night Advice, or send him an e-mail for kissable questions.
When Placing Your Order…

* Meat eaten in large quantities can cause bad breath, mostly due to the digestion process, which begins in the mouth.
* Carbohydrates cause the strongest odors in the mouth – sugars, starches, and cellulose
* Milk intolerance is also a cause of bad breath. If you are sensitive to dairy products – steer clear of ice cream desserts!

After Your Meal…

* Lick the inside of your wrist. This is the best test to see if your breath is foul.
* Use dental floss. Bad breath can be caused by food caught in your teeth.
* Chew your garnish! Parsley is a well-known home remedy for bad breath.
* Order the fruit dessert. Fresh fruits help cleanse the mouth after a meal and flush away odor-causing bacteria

At the Bar…

* Alcohol dries out the mouth, which reduces saliva production.
* Mojitos contain lots of fresh mint, so order one and ask for an extra mint garnish to chew on after you finish your drink.
* Water will help thwart the dehydration effect of alcohol. Order one glass of water for every drink and you’ll stay sober and sweet!
* Alcohol consumption causes digestive problems which leads to bad breath. In addition, alcohol dries out the mouth, which reduces saliva production.

Daniel Smith, D.D.S., F.A.G.D in 1981 graduated from the University of California , Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Dentistry and began his professional career with a three-year stint as a member of the US Public Health Service in Dallas , Texas , while simultaneously practicing in a private office in Plano , Texas . Dr. Smith in 1988 established Focus Dentistry located in Agora Hills , California where he practices today.
He prides himself on his commitment to continued education and has spent over 2,000 hours building his expertise in dentistry, with more than 1,000 of those hours dedicated to implant dentistry. Dr. Smith is a graduate of the Misch International Implant Institute, having completed in 2004 a residency in prosthetics and in 2005 a residency in implant surgery. He maintains memberships in several organizations including the Academy of General Dentistry , the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Academy of Osseointegration , the International College of Implantology, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Smith frequently lectures on implant dentistry, office design and practice management and is the director of Focus Dental Institute for Implant Reconstruction as well as co-director of Focus Center of Sleep Apnea and Snoring. Please visit www.FocusDentistryOnline.com to learn more.

My lil Boston last year(what a HUGE difference, lol)

OK so I will have to say this year is going to be a great Valentine's day! I have my two boys(DH and lil Boston). DH and I probably will not have the chance to do any kind of romantic night since we have a little one. I will try to make it special though with sweet notes left through out the house all day, picking up some of his fave treats(gummie worms), and a nice dinner for the THREE of us!

I think as a gift I may try to find some of our pics from when we began dating and make a cute college or maybe even take pics of lil Boston and make a heart-shaped collage(Oooo that sounds fun!) Hmmmmm...I wonder what he will get me?? Last year I got the most beautiful tulips(my fave) anddddd I'm sure something that I grant for but just can't think of it! *giggle*

Please be sure to check out some of these great post by some of the BEST MOMMY BLOGGERS!!!

GET YOUR HANDS RED CARPET READY!

Get your hands red carpet ready! What are all the stars doing to ensure a complete celebrity transformation when they hit that red carpet. It’s no secret that some turn to facial plastic surgery procedures like Botox, or a face lifts to look and feel younger. Commonly overlooked and often forgotten about are our hands – one of the most age revealing parts of our body. In fact, according to a recent study from Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), studying the appearance of one’s hands is one of the easiest ways to determine someone’s age.
That being said, I would like to take a moment to introduce you to a great plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Williams of Tri Valley Plastic Surgery.
Tri Valley He is located in the local San Francisco area that specializes in hand rejuvenation.
Noninvasive, Inexpensive Hand Rejuvenation Procedures. I hope your lucky enough to live close enough to visit his facility.
By Dr. Steven Williams
Tri Valley Plastic Surgery

SOME OF HIS GREAT HAND TECHNIQUES:

Microdermabrasion - These techniques can be used to remove (exfoliate) the outer layers of the skin and over time and with repeat treatments can lighten pigmented spots and smooth fine wrinkles. This procedure is quick (about 30 minutes for both hands) and usually less than $100.

Light Peels - The same glycolic acid peels that aestheticians use for the face can be a way to make your hands look younger in no time. Again the price is typically under $100.

Medical grade peels - Stronger agents applied by a physician can provide deep peels in one treatment that are very effective in removing uneven skin tone and wrinkles. These procedures can be associated with some downtime but can produce fantastic results. Treatments are typically less than $1000.

Non-ablative laser treatments - IPL laser treatments are great for zapping brown spots on hands. Over a few days the spots will darken and fall off leaving significantly improved skin color beneath. There is no downtime with these procedures and typically costs are just a few hundred dollars. Patients may need more than one treatment.

Ablative laser treatments - CO2 laser technology has been a mainstay of resurfacing skin to remove fine wrinkles and discoloration. New improvements in this technology has dramatically decreased downtime and increased effectiveness.

Injectable fillers - Although "off label" (meaning the FDA has not investigated the product being used in the hands) many physicians are using products like Restylane and Juvederm in the hands to give a more youthful appearance.

Fat transfer - A technique that Dr. Williams uses frequently in his practice involves taking fat from places you don't want it and using small portions of it to restore the youthful look to hands. Special techniques are required for treating hands including a precise knowledge of the anatomy of the hand and a complete understanding of how to make the hand look more youthful.

Take Matters into Your Own Hands

bullet point for forums Pictures, Images and PhotosHand Rejuvenation. The hands are one of the most age revealing body parts. As one ages, the hand loses firmness and plumpness. They begin to look bony and fragile with vein and joint protrusion. “Combating aging hands takes more than topical hand cream,” says Dr. Williams. “There are several techniques that can significantly improve the appearance of your hands and most are quite affordable.”

bullet point for forums Pictures, Images and PhotosPrevention - a good moisturizer and sunscreen are critical parts to keep hands looking young. Sunscreen in particular can prevent discoloring age spots and skin cancer.

A quote from Dr Stephens:
“Cosmetic surgery is a part of many people’s lives today. That is why I feel passionately about giving my patients the tools to restore or create function, form and beauty in their changing lives in any economy.”

About Dr. Steven Williams, MD

Dr. Steven Williams is a board-certified plastic surgeon who graduated with a Medical Doctorate from Yale University School of Medicine and has dedicated his career to plastic and reconstructive surgery. He co-founded a plastic surgery department for Kaiser Permanente's Central Valley service area. After years of service, he founded a microsurgical reconstructive program at Kaiser Permanente's Diablo service area. Dr. Williams' expertise in microsurgery and leadership led him to many firsts including the first unilateral DIEP breast reconstruction, the first bilateral DIEP breast reconstruction, the first microsurgical upper extremity reconstruction, the first microsurgical lower extremity reconstruction and many others. Dr. Williams now offers his expertise at his private practice, Tri Valley Surgery, where he serves the Tri Valley and East Bay Area of Northern California.

Along with helping his patients with their plastic surgery needs, Dr. Williams also takes great pride in giving back to the community. In addition to local charity efforts, Dr. Williams also provides hand surgery to children internationally through an organization called Hand Help.
